Launched today, U+I is the product of a merger between Development Securities PLC and Cathedral Group. This morning we moved both companies into our new home at 7A Howick Place in London’s Victoria – a beautiful building redesigned for us by Coffey Architects and Ab Rogers Design – and unveiled our new identity.
Today is not so much a new start as a new chapter in our combined histories. U+I is a regeneration company and a business that brings together the best of our former two companies. It is founded on a combination of financial strength and commercial acumen and a commitment to the very highest standards of architecture, innovation and ideas about design, place and history to enable long-term, sustainable socio-economic change.
We have already begun to unlock the full potential of the projects in our joint pipeline to create real value through regeneration. With a portfolio of major mixeduse projects focused around London, the South-East, Manchester and Dublin we are employing creativity and innovation to some of the most exciting opportunities in the property sector. We are transforming undervalued and overlooked corners of towns and cities into neighbourhoods and communities, places where people and enterprise can thrive, places where people want to be.
Our name has been carefully chosen. When Development Securities and Cathedral came together in a joint venture to buy Morden Wharf in March 2012, our research unearthed a long maritime industrial history on the site. A union used to meet regularly there in an old pub, The Seawitch, that no longer stands. Its motto was ‘Be United and Industrious’. This seemed to illustrate our joint venture perfectly and is the inspiration for the name U+I, reflecting our collaborative and productive approach.
U+I. You will know us by the places we create.
