Les Robinson (1931 – 2016) was President of Hounslow Chamber in 1994 and then for the 6 years from 1997 to 2004. He kept the Chamber afloat through challenging times. Les was very active in the administration of the Partnership Challenge, with Garth Buckle of the Hounslow Education Business Partnership (now Spark!), which recognises, rewards and supports activities between schools and the local economic community in the borough of Hounslow.
The Partnership Challenge is now administered by Spark! and Hounslow Chamber is proud to present and support the Jubilee Cup, the Malcolm Gibbins and the Alan Bosson trophy. In 1995 Les and Hounslow Chamber was involved in the formation of the Hounslow Town Centre Partnership. That same year saw Hounslow Chamber and other local borough chambers form West London Chamber of Commerce, which in 2000 merged with West London Inward to form West London Business (WLB). Les was a WLB Board member for a number of years.
Les appointed Sally Smith as the Hounslow Chamber Manager in 2001 and they worked together, with Alan Bosson, to build the Chamber. Without Les Robinson Hounslow Chamber could well have ceased to exist.
Les was a true gentleman, quietly spoken but commanding respect. He worked tirelessly on behalf of Hounslow Chamber. The committee meetings held at his house, with refreshments supplied by his wife, Paulette, were legendary. He will be missed.
