This is the UK’s first automated cycle storage system in action at our Algarve House site. We’re excited to be working with Eco Cycle to show off the many benefits of this new high tech system.
The popularity of cycling is growing fast. In London the Mayor’s Cycling Vision 2020 aims to double the number of journeys made by bike in the capital each day. With more people travelling by bike, the demand for cycle parking will grow, and space in London is already at a high premium.
Eco Cycle can solve this dilemma, providing up to 204 secure, dry cycle spaces above or below ground and only taking up 6% of the space required to store the same amount of bikes in traditional 2 tier racking. It eliminates the need for cyclists to carry around their locks, helmets and other equipment and bikes can be retrieved in just 13 seconds.
Town planners and developers can also benefit from Eco Cycle’s system. It reduces street clutter in public spaces, can be integrated into new developments and offers both public and private storage provision with no security or access issues.
MD Nick Knight has been thinking about how to provide space efficient, safe bike parking for over a decade. He first encountered Eco Cycle whilst on a research trip to Japan and was so impressed he bought the exclusive rights to bring Eco Cycle to the UK. He says:
‘Eco Cycle’s sophisticated automation and engineering just blew me away. Japan is globally renowned for its technically advanced engineering and ingenious use of space, which are perfectly embodied in the Eco Cycle concept.’
Eco Cycle is located next to our temporary arts space, Platform, on our Algarve House site
near to Southwark Tube Station.
