EcoWorld London talks careers with local secondary school students at Verdo-Kew Bridge

Last week, EcoWorld London invited students aged 14-15 from Isleworth and Syon Secondary School for Boys to visit the site of its Verdo-Kew Bridge development in Brentford. Students were excited to take part in a Careers and Awareness morning which involved five EcoWorld London team members providing a deep insight into what it’s like to work in the construction and property development industry.

Following an introduction to Verdo-Kew Bridge using the model and a tour of the development’s show apartment, the EcoWorld London team delivered quick-fire talks on each of their careers. These talks involved engaging insights into, first, how to deliver a large mixed-used scheme and, second, an array of roles in the construction industry such as the commercial, contractor and technical opportunities.

Contributors cited Verdo-Kew Bridge as a prime example of an exciting, innovative and complex construction project to work on. In addition to over 900 new homes the scheme also incorporates the new state-of-the-art, purpose-built Brentford Football Club community stadium, a new purpose built location for Brentford FC Community Sports Trust and a public square with shops and cafes.

Nivene Powell, Senior Community Liaison Officer at EcoWorld London, commented: “It was fantastic to welcome such an enthusiastic group of students from Isleworth and Syon Secondary School to Verdo-Kew Bridge and introduce them to some of the exciting careers within construction. Verdo-Kew Bridge will play a significant part in the regeneration of Brentford and we want to make sure we are giving back to the local community from the very outset, and that they are part of the journey in creating this vibrant new neighbourhood.”

Mark Adams, Careers Leader from Isleworth and Syon Secondary School, said: “Year 9 is a great time to get students thinking about their future careers. EcoWorld London’s introduction morning was a fun, engaging way to learn about the construction industry. Of course, it had the added advantage of taking place on a live building site, an exciting community project close to our school. We would like to thank the team at EcoWorld London for providing the opportunity for this wholly valuable career and awareness day.”
